Focus Group Questions Report

Focus Group Questions
1: What do you think of the relationship between Roxie and Sebastian? e.g. How they feel about each other, how they act toward each other etc.

2: What impression does Roxie give of herself and how she changes through the extract?

3: Were there any scenes that irked you? Why did they do so?

4: From the extract, how obvious was it that Roxie was behind it all?

5: What is your overall impression of the script?

The first person from my focus group highlighted that the extract was quite confusing as the first scene suggested that Roxie and Arthur were friends, which was not the intention. Obviously, as the extract is the last ten minutes of the last episode, there isn’t much character development that caused some confusion with the reader. He suggested that I cut the first scene and replace it with a review of the evidence or similar. He also suggested that I cut down on dialogue. He did not pick up on any substantial relationship between Sebastian and Roxie and did not understand their character types properly. He did not understand Roxie’s character at all until I gave further explanation which would have been provided in earlier episodes, then he thought that she was being overly kind to Arthur, making her being behind it all obvious to him from that extract. Over-all, other than the initial confusion, he enjoyed the script but would think a review of the evidence more appropriate in the first scene.

The second person I asked was better informed of the background of the script. They thought the relationship between Roxie and Sebastian was unclear and did not properly understand the connection, but was aware that Sebastian was the mediator between Roxie and Arthur. They thought that Roxie was overly nice to Arthur but otherwise seemed nice enough. They thought that her being the perpetrator was a little obvious but only from what they had read. They also found the first scene off putting and liked the suggestion of a recap at the beginning of the script. They liked the script overall and thought that, with a few tweaks, it could easily be very good.
